a face stranger than fiction

Marty Feldman, as Igor in Young Frankenstein

I decorated my classroom last week for the upcoming Halloween party we will have with the children. To start them in a mood for Halloween, I played a YouTube video of The Monster Mash featuring short, black and while clips of famous Hollywood monsters. As images of the Frankenstein monster, Dracula, the Wolfman, and others flashed across the screen, the students let out shriek after shriek. But the loudest screams of all came when the saw an image of poor old Marty Feldman, from Young Frankenstein, disguised with nothing but a grin and a black cloak pulled over his head.

I have to say, though, when I look at his picture, I can’t help but see a deep kindness. I don’t think anyone would choose to have such a face, but he used it for a rather noble cause, bringing smiles to the rest of us!
